Happy International Gelato Day!
Gelato traces its roots to the Italian Renaissance, where it first emerged in the courts of Florence as a luxurious treat for the elite. Over time, it became a beloved part of everyday life—a simple pleasure enjoyed during the passeggiata, the evening stroll through piazzas and cobbled streets.
In honor of International Gelato Day, we’re sharing a few of our favorite toppings inspired both by Italian tradition and modern pairings:
🍒 Amaretto Cherries – Hand-harvested in Puglia and preserved in rich Amaretto syrup, these cherries by Lazzaroni bring a luxurious finish to a scoop of classic vanilla.
🍈 Extra virgin olive oil– A drizzle of high-quality olive oil over gelato brings surprising complexity and depth, especially over fior di latte or citrusy flavors.
🍫 Chocolate Chunk Biscotti – Crumbled biscotti add satisfying crunch to your gelato. The Lunardi family, based in Tuscany, has specialized in biscotti for over 50 years.
🍊 Orange Balsamic Glaze – Bring a bright, tangy accent to dark chocolate or pistachio gelato with this glaze by Ponte Vecchio, balancing richness with just the right amount of acidity.
☕ Ground Espresso Coffee. – A classic Italian affogato is a traditional dessert where hot espresso is poured over cold gelato, creating a delightful contrast of temperatures and flavors. We recommend a scoop of hazelnut or vanilla with our rich espresso blend by Trucillo.
