This oregano is grown in Pantelleria, a volcanic island known for its nutrient-rich soil which produces extra flavorful aromatics. The herbs are harvested at the end of May and into early June and air-dried in the shade for 10-15 days before they are packaged.

Kazzen was founded in 2004 by the D'Ancona brothers with the mission to develop and preserve the native capers and agriculture of their home, the beautiful Italian island of Pantelleria, in Mediterranean sea between Sicily and Tunisia. The volcanic island is also home to native varieties of oregano and grapes, which feature prominently in their products as well. Their production facility is situated right beside the growing fields so the fresh produce travels only meters to be processed. They use no preservatives or coloring in any of their products, most of which have only a few simple ingredients. In 2005 they won their first flavor award for their Pesto Pantesco, and have continued to be recognized for their delicious, authentic Italian products.
